Tears into Wine

The Lord gave me the scripture Psalms 56:8 this past week as I read of tragic abuse a lovely Messianic Jewish lady in Israel endured as a young child. As I explored the verse and the original language, I began to see what I believe is a direct spiritual correlation to the first miracle Jesus ever performed, according John 2:11. Track with me.

“You have taken account of my wanderings (nôḏ exile). Put my tears in Your bottle (nō’ḏ skin, skin-bottle)— are they not in Your book?” 

It was deeper than I first thought. I didn’t realize there was a Hebraic word play in play!

The first miracle that Yeshua ever performed was turning the water into wine. This has a hidden connection to those tears of ours that God collects. The connection of the two means more than I have ever realized.

II believe that the exile that Israel has experience over the last 2,000 years is not unlike the exile every person experiences before they come to the Lord by faith. Even then, God is watching us in our “exile” before we know Yeshua and He is collecting our tears. He knows ALL of us to the tiniest detail of our being. Nothing is hidden from Him about ANY of us.

Our bodies, our skin, are like the bottles of God in Psalm 56:8. God is not just collecting the tears of those who have come to faith in Jesus, He collects all of our tears and He sees what we do with the sorrows inside us. Our own skin are like the ancient skin bottle of the liquids people used to carry with them. (This is going to lead to a further exploration of

The skin of our ‘bottles’ are our bodies. Our bodies contains all the sorrows we have experienced in our lives. The tears that God has collected are stored in our bodies, our ‘skin-bottles’.

All those tears are collected there UNTIL Yeshua comes and turns the waters of tears in our lives into wine. His Holy Spirit administers His oil to our wounds, and our tears are turned into wine. As we allow this work with us, be become transformed. We God from wounded to healed, and in this process we are able to become living letters of God’s love for people. We become the living testimonies to people around us who need healing in their lives.

In Mark 2:22, Luke 5:37, and Matthew 9:17 Yeshua gives the parable of only pouring new wine into new wineskins, because only new wineskins are flexible enough to withstand the pressure of the fermentation process. As the new wine ferments it expands. This means that spiritually speaking, those who have not come to Yeshua and are not undergoing the transformation process (fermentation of the new wine) cannot withstand the pressure and will cause them to burst.

I believe that the fermentation of new wine is compared here to the process we go through of being transformed into the same likeness of Yeshua. Old brittle wineskins cannot contain new wine. This is yet another analogy of our human bodies – the container of our lives, tears, fears, and how we act on them – that Jesus is turning into wine.

The tears collected in ourselves in our life experiences, God has taken note of each and every one of them. When we walk in the faith of Yeshua, our tears are turned into spiritual wine – the witness and testimony to others that they too can become healed of all the tears they carry in their own ‘skin bottles’.

I know it sounds strange, and yet it is the mysterious language God uses to speak to us who belong to Him.

I saw that this is exactly what made my friend Ronit such a good witness of God’s love to the people she meets. It is because her own tears that God bottled up from her life, when she came to Yeshua, He began to turn the waters of her tears into wine. It is fine spiritual wine to serve others and any of us can have that if we want it. That is really something!
