God Judges False gods

There is a consistency in the Bible of how God and His prophets deal with the false gods of the nations, it is in mockery.
There is a consistency in the Bible of how God and His prophets deal with the false gods of the nations, it is in mockery. The point of this study is to say to Christians worried about the ancient gods rising up again in modern times that God is consistent in judging false gods of the people by MOCKING them as He showed how worthless they are to help anyone. The Ten Plagues of Egypt are exactly that, God is mocking false gods by showing the Egyptians gods cannot even protect themselves from the One True God, much less protect Egyptians.
If I were you, seeing how God has judged the false gods of ancient mythologies, I would be far more concerned about recognizing that modern idolatries take modern form, and how will God judge those false idols we worship in our current time?
God Judges False gods continues
Sept 20, 2026: I just saw a clip from Ben Shapiro that grabbed my attention but I’m not going to share it because as brilliant as Ben Shapiro is. He is a ‘pre-believer’. That’s what Israeli Messianic Jews call fellow Jews who have not yet come to faith in Israel’s Messiah Yeshua..If Ben Shapiro had not taken a pot shot at the sacrificial lamb of Passover, I would gladly share it, but in no way do I believe he is accurate about the sacrifice of the Passover lamb being just another of God’s judgments on the Egyptian ‘gods’ as they are revealed in the 10 plagues.
However, I will say Shapiro does draw this from a revered medieval rabbi Maimonides who “noted that the requirement for the Israelites to publicly slaughter and eat an unblemished lamb—and smear its blood openly on their doorposts—was a direct, radical rejection of the Egyptian worship of the ram. It demonstrated to both nations that an animal the Egyptians worshiped as a symbol of cosmic power was entirely powerless under the God of Israel.”
I do believe this was the rabbis were trying too hard to distance the understanding of the Gospels and first century Messianic Jewish believers and Christian congregations from seeing Yeshua/Jesus as the sacrificial Lamb of God in the Exodus story. But here is the thing to me, there is a big difference in the one year old male lamb (H7716 – sê) in the Exodus story, and the (H352 ‘ayil) RAM-gods that the Egyptians worshipped! Not even the same Hebrew word, plus the ‘ayil/ram would have been grown to great strength and having fully grown horns by 3 years old. That is quite a different picture than the tender, young sê/lamb that was slaughtered at Passover.
Let’s look at the interpretative map of the 10 plagues God executed and what Egyptian gods they might have related to. The Egyptians had hundreds of false gods, but certain of them were more worshipped than others, and all were equated with specific realms of supposed blessing and protection that would come to those that worshipped them.
In the Ben Shapiro clip I saw, the man who was talking commented on how God was making a mockery of the false gods by the nature of the plagues He visited on Egypt – and that is much the same as the mockery that Elijah heaped on the prophets of Baal at the Carmel mountain showdown. The message is, how are your false gods going to protect you when they can’t even protect themselves? This is also the same message that the false god Dagon falling on its idol statue face and breaking its neck before God’s Ark of the Covenant.
Let’s look at the 10 plagues.
The First Plague: the Nile Waters Turned to Blood Exodus 7:14 |
There are 3 main false gods that were related to the Nile River: Hapi (Nile flood/fertility), Khnum (guardian of the Nile’s source), Osiris (sometimes associated with the Nile as his “bloodstream”).
7:25 And seven full days passed after the LORD had struck the Nile.
The Second Plague: Frogs Exodus 8:1 |
Heqet/Heket (frog-headed goddess of fertility and childbirth)
8:3 God says, I will plague your whole country with frogs, The Nile will teem with frogs, and they will come into your palace and up to your bedroom and onto your bed , into the houses of your officials and your people, and into your ovens and kneading bowls. 4 The frogs will come up on you and your people and all your officials.’”
This is really weird what do you think this is about? Once Pharoah relents and tells Moses his people can leave, Moses asks , when shall I pray for you and your officials and people have the frogs taken away from their houses, but not from the Nile river. And Pharoah answers, Tomorrow. The frogs died, were piled up in heaps and cause a terrible stench in the land. . . .even with the stinky reminder and frogs still in the Nile river, as soon as Pharoah experienced relief, his heart hardened again.
The Third Plague: Gnats Exodus 8:16 |
They made a god out of gnats? Well, gnats and lice. Geb (earth god), since they came from the dust.
Geb (earth god), since they came from the dust. It was because Moses told Aaron to smite the land with his rod so that all the dust over Egypt turned into swarms of lice. Pharoah’s magicians tried to do the same but could not and told Pharoah, “This is the finger of God…. But ’s heart was hardened, and he would not listen to them, just as the LORD had said.”
The Fourth Plague: Flies Exodus 8:20-30 |
Their main god of flies is Khepri, ʿārôḇ which is from the root word ʿāraḇ and means swarm (mixture, from incessant, involved motion/of plague of stinging flies. Here they stinging swarm will be sent on all the people from Pharoah, to officials to common people – but no one” in the Land of Goshen, where My people live” …and the land was ruined by stinging swarms mocking the false god of Khepri, ʿārôḇ, stinging flies.
When Pharoah relented after this plague he told Moses to “go out and sacrifice to you God within this land” but Moses answered him that “It would not be right to do that, because the sacrifices we offer to the LORD our God would be detestable to the Egyptians. If we offer sacrifices that are detestable before the Egyptians, will they not stone us? We must make a three-day journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the LORD our God as He commands us.”
I wonder if what I am seeing here is the release of Jews from Western nations where the stinging flies of Islam have been allowed to come into rule.
The Fifth Plague: Livestock pestilence Exodus 9:1 |
The false gods of Hathor (cow-headed) and Apis (sacred bull).
Pharoah was warned, but refused to relent so the next day, “All the livestock of the Egyptians died, but not one animal belonging to the Israelites died.”
The Sixth Plague: Boils Exodus 9:8 |
The false god of Sekhmet (lioness-headed goddess of plague and healing), sometimes Isis (goddess of major used to heal the sick or Imhotep a historical figure elevated to be a god of healing and wisdom.
The Seventh Plague: Hail Exodus 9:13 |
The false gods of Nut (sky goddess) and Set (storms) may have been the false gods God was mocking here.
God tells Moses to deliver this message: 15 For by this time I could have stretched out My hand and struck you and your people with a plague to wipe you off the earth. 16 But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display My power to you, and that My name might be proclaimed in all the earth. 17 Still, you lord it over My people and do not allow them to go.” So here come the worst hail ever that will kill every person or livestock that is not brought in under protection. Many did, many did not. 26 The only place where it did not hail was in the land of Goshen, where the Israelites lived.
Once again the people of God were protected. This time Pharaoh admits “This time I have sinned,” he said. “The LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.” But admitted sin is not turning from sin. It is not repentance until the sin is turned from. And so, once Moses lifted his hands to God to cease the storm, hardened his heart again.
The Eighth Plague: Locusts Exodus 10:1|
The false gods of agricultural and harvest – two primarily being Osiris, Renenutet
God told Moses that He hardened the heart of Pharaoh and his officials “so the I may perform these miraculous signs of Mine among them, and that you (Moses) may tell your children ad grandchildren how severely I dealt with the Egyptians when I performed miraculous sings among them, so that all of you may know that I am the LORD.” All of you – both Hebrews and Egyptians.
3 So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and told him, “This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, so that they may worship Me. 4 But if you refuse to let My people go, I will bring locusts into your territory tomorrow. 5 They will cover the face of the land so that no one can see it. They will devour whatever is left after the hail and eat every tree that grows in your fields. 6 They will fill your houses and the houses of all your officials and every Egyptian—something neither your fathers nor your grandfathers have seen since the day they came into this land.’”
This is still Moses addressing Pharaoh – so Egyptians came into the land of Egypt, just like the Hebrews came into the land of Canaan. Have never thought of that before. Moses leaves and Egyptian officials try to persuade Pharaoh to let the Hebrews go because Egypt is being destroyed. But Pharaoh doesn’t want to let Moses take the children out. so the next day, the locust swarms hit Egypt.
The Ninth Plague: Darkness Exodus 10:21|
Here it is a major Egyptian false god, Ra or Amun-Ra, the sun god that the LORD makes a mockery of by sending deep darkness on Egypt for 3 days.
Verse 22 “. . . total darkness covered all the land of Egypt for three days. 23 No one could see anyone else, and for three days no one left his place. Yet all the Israelites had light in their dwellings.
Pharaoh sends for Moses, relents telling Moses they can go taking their children, but they must not take their flocks and herds. But Moses said, “You must also provide us with sacrifices and burnt offerings to present to the LORD our God. 26 Even our livestock must go with us; not a hoof will be left behind, for we will need some of them to worship the LORD our God, and we will not know how we are to worship the LORD until we arrive.”
Pharaoh did not accept the terms and cried out 28 “Depart from me!” Pharaoh said to Moses. “Make sure you never see my face again, for on the day you see my face, you will die.” 29 “As you say,” Moses replied, “I will never see your face again.”
The Plague on the Firstborn Foretold Exodus 11:1|
The 11th plague is on the false god Pharaoh, who is regarded as a living god – but has the inability to protect any life. God making a mockery of those who consider themselves to be gods the people must worship. This was also the truth about the Roman Ceasars, and even today among the various Islamist sects of Shia and Sunni, but Turkish leader Erdogan sees himself as the leading voice for the ummah, which is the transnational community of the Islamic “one brotherhood” of Allah worshippers.” This is the modern equivalent of the false god of Pharaoh or Ceasar.
The First Passover: the prelude to the execution of the Egyptian first born Exodus 12:1|
2“This month is the beginning of months for you; it shall be the first month of your year. Passover becomes the prelude to God preserving all the first born among His people when the Death Angel Passes Over all of Egypt. It is critical because every household had to receive the BLOOD of the sacrificed Lamb painted over the doorposts of their dwelling to make sure none in their household were put to death. Only those that received and did this were safe from the Angel of Death passing over the whole of Egypt at midnight.
Christians, many of them, have no idea how this event holds any meaning to them, but it does in symbolic pictures. The blood on the doorposts and lintel hearkens to what Yeshua said of Himself in John 10:9, “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved.” Also, many Messianic believers believe that the act of applying the blood foreshadowed the crucifixion. To strike the blood onto the horizontal top lintel and down the two vertical side doorposts requires a motion that traces the outline of a cross.
Even though rabbinic Judaism has made the Jewish New Year – Rosh HaShannah which is really the Feast of Trumpets –the Jewish new year in the 7th month, God set the Hebrew calendar as the month of Passover in the first month as the beginning of the year. Exodus 12 is the first Passover was set by God, not by men.
This is the month that each household was to select an unblemished year old male of sheep or goats, to slaughter at twilight. Verse 7 “They are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs.”
They were then to roast and eat with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. It had to be roasted by fire, none were to eat it raw or boiled – head, legs & inner parts. They had to eat all before morning, burn up if any was left over and be dressed for travel the next day because God was going to deliver them from Egypt.
“You are to eat in haste; it is the LORD’s Passover. 12 On that night I will pass through the land of Egypt and strike down every firstborn male, both man and beast, and I will execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD. 13 The blood on the houses where you are staying will be a sign; when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No plague will fall on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.
The Feast of Unleavened Bread Exodus 12:14|
(Leviticus 23:4–8; Numbers 28:16–25; Deuter onomy 16:1–8)
14 And this day will be a memorial for you, and you are to celebrate it as a feast to the LORD, as a permanent statute for the generations to come.
These are the Feasts of the LORD given by God to the Hebrews to observe forever. Nowhere are these feasts days revoked in God’s Word. They remain the only appointed Feasts given by God.
The Tenth Plague: Death of the Firstborn Exodus 12:29|
29 Now at midnight the LORD struck down every firstborn male in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on his throne, to the firstborn of the prisoner in the dungeon, as well as all the firstborn among the livestock. 30 During the night Pharaoh got up—he and all his officials and all the Egyptians—and there was loud wailing in Egypt; for there was no house without someone dead.”The Exodus Begins Exodus 12:31|
31 Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron by night and said, “Get up, leave my people, both you and the Israelites! Go, worship the LORD as you have requested. 32 Take your flocks and herds as well, just as you have said, and depart! And bless me also. . . .35 Furthermore, the Israelites acted on Moses’ word and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold, and for clothing. 36 And the LORD gave the people such favor in the sight of the Egyptians that they granted their request. In this way they plundered the Egyptians
I believe this is more proof that false gods and goddesses are NOTHING. They are not inhabited by demons and they are not demonic entities themselves. It is MUCH MORE important for Christians and Messianic Jews in our current time, to look at the false gods we worship and understand how we do spiritual warfare against those modern idols instead of the false gods of the ancients. Because like it or not, God is going to bring judgment on our modern idolatries, and if we don’t even know what they consist of, we are going to be trying to fight spiritual warfare that has already been fought and won thousands of years ago by God. The ten plagues on Egypt’s false gods is a perfect example.
